The Gaughans – a family of four originally from Scotland – have recently relocated to Cambridge, purchasing a stunning new four bedroom family home at Mitchams Park in the heart of the city centre.


Joe Gaughan works for a biotech company located in Granta Park and was recently transferred from the Illinois office to Cambridge. The family moved into their new spacious home at the end of October, after a year-long spell renting in Cambridge.


The family looked around a number of homes in the city centre itself, but none felt right for them, particularly given the lack of open space in the area. The Gaughans were instantly drawn to Mitchams Park owing to the development’s unique setting – nestled within a secluded, leafy landscaped area with tree lined avenues and a strong community ethos,


Helen Gaughan comments: “It’s great to have such an abundance of green space around the development whilst still being at the heart of Cambridge city centre. We also love the large garage, which can comfortably fit our car and gives us extra storage space.”


The four bedroom property boasts a large kitchen and dining area, which conveniently opens out onto an attractive garden area – an aspect that instantly appealed to the family when looking around. Another winning feature of the interior was the installation of sky lights fitted throughout the home, which Helen believes makes the space “really bright and airy.”


For Helen, it was crucial that the Gaughans were walking distance from the city centre, in order to be able to enjoy the wealth of amenities on offer. In particular, Helen is thrilled to be located so close to the River Cam, Jesus Green and Midsummers Common: ‘My husband takes our car to work, so it was very important for me that we found a home that was situated close to Cambridge city centre. I take our dog for a walk twice a day, and it’s wonderful to be able to reach the River Cam so easily.’


Furthermore, the couple fell in love with the city centre itself, regularly frequenting the weekend markets and exploring the local restaurants and shops. Mitchams Park strikes the perfect balance, positioned for accessing the major roads in the area, but also maintaining a sense of peace and quiet.  Helen notes: “The house is situated close enough to a main road, yet you don’t hear any noise at all. At night the surroundings are completely silent.”
