Northampton is located in East Midlands in central England, the landlocked county town of Northamptonshire is approximately 70 miles north of London and 50 miles south of Birmingham. Transport in Northampton

Northampton provides excellent road and rail infrastructure, which makes main towns highly accessible. By road, the M1, A5, A14 and M1-A1 link road all interconnect through Northampton. When travelling further afield, there are several airports to choose from, with Heathrow, Luton, Stanstead, Birmingham and East Midlands all within an hour.

Alternatively, London and Birmingham are within a commutable distance from Northampton via rail. London Euston takes under an hour, with Birmingham New Street only a little over.

A strong base for education

Northampton has a large number of schools throughout the town, including five special schools and a number of independents. The town has been known to perform above average when it comes to GCSE results, with Northampton School for Boys being one of the top performing schools in the UK.

For further education, the University of Northampton offers a wide range of courses across the arts, business, science and more. It also boasts some fabulous learning facilities and accommodation, having invested £330 million in its new Waterside campus.

A driving force for business

Well-known for its history in the leather industry, Northampton’s shoemaking legacy lives on with brands such as Dr. Martens still operating out of the town. More recently, Northampton has become a hub for engineering with a focus on the automotive industry.

The Mercedes-Benz Formula One team, Cosworth, KTM and GE Precision Engineering are just a few of the employers that make up a large network of engineering, technology and manufacturing businesses in the region. And in 2017, Northampton was named as the UK’s number one town for new business creation by the Northamptonshire Growth Hub.
