Our History

  1. 1963


    Crest Homes Limited was formed by Bryan Skinner and Geoffrey Fox in Walton on Thames, Surrey.

  2. 1968


    Listed on the London Stock Exchange under the name of Crest Homes Limited and subsequently Crest Securities Limited.

  3. 1972


    Formation of Crest Nicholson following the merger of Crest Homes Ltd with Camper & Nicholson’s the boat builder.

  4. 1977

    Opening of the first regional office on Westerham, Kent.

  5. 1986


    Acquisition of the Pearce Group, leading to the formation of the South West & Midlands regions.

  6. 1996


    The 'Nicholson Estates' brand was developed to trade in the quality inner London market.

  7. 1997


    Acquired Ingress Park, a 30 hectare derelict site in Greenhithe, now an award winning flagship residential regeneration project.

  8. 2002


    First in the sector to report on non-financial performance.

  9. 2004


    Named as the only house builder in Business In the Community’s ‘Top 100 Companies that Count’.

  10. 2005


    Achieved first position in WWF’s ‘One million sustainable homes’ benchmark (Now NextGeneration benchmark).

  11. 2006


    Crest Nicholson, in partnership with BioRegional Quintain, launched ‘One Brighton’, a highly sustainable and pioneering development which embraced the principles of 'One Planet Living'. The business also produced its first guide to Greener Living for new homeowners.

  12. 2007


    Awarded the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise in sustainable development. This year the business became privately owned and was no longer listed on the London Stock Exchange.

  13. 2008


    Committed to reducing carbon emissions by 25% from Crest Nicholson offices and sites by 2020. The company also published its first climate change review.

  14. 2009


    Crest Nicholson forms part of a leading R&D project called AIMC4, designed to pioneer the volume production of low carbon homes for the future.

  15. 2010


    Beat the halving waste to landfill target set in 2008, by making a 62% reduction. The Company also won its 8th Building for life Gold Standard – achieving more than any other developer.

  16. 2011


    Launched a new London division to focus on increasing delivery in the centre of the Capital. The Group also won Sustainable Housebuilder of the Year award.

  17. 2013


    In the company’s 50th year it re-enters the London Stock Exchange and also saw the start of our pioneering post-occupancy research programme at Centenary Quay, Woolston, Southampton.

  18. 2014


    A new Chiltern division opens in St Albans, helping to deliver much needed new homes in the northern home counties. Crest Nicholson is named as a gold award winner in the NextGeneration benchmark in recognition of the Company’s place as sustainability leaders within the sector.

  19. Monksmoor


    The first residents move into Monksmoor Park in Daventry. This entirely new village, inspired by the Garden City concept from Ebenezer Howard and underpinned by our own Garden Village framework. Click here to find out more.

  20. Kilnwood Vale


    A partnership is developed with M&G Real Estate to deliver the UK’s first purpose designed suburban private rented sector (PRS) homes at Kilnwood Vale in Faygate.
