Transport around Cardiff and beyond

Cardiff boasts good road, rail and air connections. With the M4 connecting Cardiff directly to the rest of the UK; Bristol, Reading and London are all under two and a half hours away, or 150 miles. Similarly, there is a direct train from Cardiff Central to London, taking just two and a half hours to reach the capital.

For far flung destinations, Cardiff International Airport is on the outskirts of the city and provides direct flights worldwide.

Revered research and education

Cardiff is home to a number of academic institutions, including Cardiff University – a member of the prestigious Russell Group of leading research-led universities. Other major higher education providers include Cardiff Metropolitan University, University of South Wales and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

The city has a large number of primary and secondary schools, with Whitchurch High School being the largest secondary school in Wales and Fitzalan High School being the UK’s most multi-cultural.

Driving business in Wales

As the capital city of Wales, Cardiff is regarded as the country’s commercial centre. It’s where the Welsh media is based, making up a large media sector that features BBC Wales, S4C and ITV Wales.

Cardiff also has a large tourist trade and is home to businesses including Admiral Group, Bank of Wales, British Airways, Confused.com, RISCOS Ltd and the Welsh National Opera.

A popular visitor destination

Cardiff Bay is a lively hub for arts, culture, food and shopping. Recharge your batteries and catch up with friends at the frequent pop-up venues, which include street food depots, bars and restaurants to satisfy all taste buds. This vibrant area also offers boat trips, established eateries and museums to keep most entertained all day.

Adrenaline seekers need look no further than Go Air for trampolining, as well as Boulders Indoor Climbing Centre and Cardiff International White Water. For sporting fans, the Principality Stadium hosts plenty of major events, seating 74,500 spectators and attracting an average of over 1.3 million visitors per year.

For a more traditional experience, look to the heart of the city for Cardiff Castle and its stunning parkland. Offering a variety of specialist tours, visitors can see the Clock Tower or famous film locations for a family-friendly day out.
