First time buyers Sarah and Oliver, aged 30 and 32, have purchased their first home at Crest Nicholson’s Oakley Grange, a charming collection of cottages, bungalows and family homes in Headcorn, Kent. The young couple, who are expecting their first child together, bought the three-bedroom house for £385,000 using the government-backed Help to Buy scheme.

“The scheme was a huge help for us” said Sarah, “it enabled us to purchase our dream home, and without it we wouldn’t have been able to afford to step onto the property ladder just yet.” The scheme enables buyers to secure their home with just a 5% deposit, and is available on all new build homes up to the value of £600,000.

Prior to the move, the pair were living in a rented two-bedroom house in the nearby town of Maidstone, but knew the time was right to purchase their first home. “The village of Headcorn has always really appealed to us,” noted Sarah; “it is the perfect size, with everything we need. It has a rural feel to it, but we’re also within easy reach of Maidstone and Ashford.”

Oliver, who works in London as an Operations Director, commutes daily from Headcorn station, which has regular trains into both Charing Cross and Cannon Street stations in just over an hour. Sarah works as an area manager and travels all over Kent for work, so the location of Oakley Grange is perfect for her too.

Oakley Grange stood out to the couple, who always knew they wanted a new build. “We came to look round the show home and within half an hour we’d put our name down for a house”, recalled Sarah. They were struck by the design of the homes at the development, as Oliver noted; “Crest Nicholson has created cottage-like new build houses that really blend in with the surrounding homes in the village.”

“We love the spacious layout of the house”, Oliver added; “the open-plan kitchen and dining room was a big selling point for us when looking round, and it is perfect for entertaining guests.”  Sarah and Oliver also love the separate living room, which provides an additional area to relax and unwind after a long day at work. Since moving in, they have started work on landscape-designing their garden, a project which is due to be complete next month.

The couple concluded; “all our guests have been so complimentary of our new home, and we love it. The house has a lovely cottage feel to it, which is rare to find with a new build property.”

Homes at Oakley Grange are still available to buy, with prices starting from £375,000, and the Help to Buy scheme makes it possible to buy one of our new homes with just 5% deposit. To find out more information, call 01622 967020
