Group of children standing by newly planted trees

On Friday 28th and Saturday 29th November, 350 new trees were planted in the new Country Park by residents, neighbours and 15 pupils from local primary school The Beeches.

Crest Nicholson’s landscaping team, Down to Earth, led two planting sessions during National Tree Week, showing how to dig a hole with enough space for the tree roots, then thoroughly stamp in the soil and cover the space with nourishing bark mulch.

The children from The Beeches are all part of the school’s Eco Council and enjoyed having a chance to get out in the fresh air and help build their environment. They planted a woodland edge mix of trees and shrubs to form new hedgerows including hazel, hawthorn, may, dog rose and elder, and the group said they were looking forward to coming back to visit the park and see their plants grow.

The local community then planted some larger species of trees, including maple, alder, oak and willow. The big highlight of the day was working together to plant a mature lime tree.

The first areas of the Country Park opened in 2022, it now has 72 acres of open space with 2.7kms of walking and cycling routes through it, and new for 2025 is a large playground with play equipment for all ages: including accessible play equipment.

Chris Fry, Planning Manager, Crest Nicholson, said “It is great to see the community coming together to support the new Henley Gate neighbourhood. It’s been a privilege to create the new Country Park for everyone to enjoy.”

Having an active community is a key part of the Henley Gate vision. There is a Community Liaison Team, Friends of the Country Park Group, a community newsletter, a Community Liaison Group and as more residents move into the neighbourhood Crest Nicholson is keen to help everyone connect and thrive.
