When Tina Westlake bought her one bedroom apartment at Crest Nicholson’s 110 at the Quay development in Port Marine, Portishead, she knew she was investing in the best. A Crest Nicholson sales advisor for the last two years, Tina currently works in Taunton but says choosing the housebuilder’s Portishead development for her next home was an easy decision to make.

“I’d wanted to move to Portishead for some time. It’s really up and coming and has a good reputation, with lots of bars and shops opening. It’s also great for commuting as the M5 is nearby. Working for Crest Nicholson, I’d seen some of the other wow-factor homes we’d built at Port Marine and just had to have one myself. It’s definitely the place to be in the Bristol area and I’m so excited to move in!”

Tina continued: “I went for the Auklet apartment type because I love the style; the open plan kitchen, lounge and dining room is great and ideal for entertaining. The specification of Crest properties is fantastic, the integrated dishwasher, fridge freezer and modern fixtures and fittings which are included in the price of the apartment are not offered as standard by all housebuilders. But I knew I was getting a good quality, reliable build with Crest.”

Tina is testimony to the fact that despite the difficult economic climate, owning your own home can be a reality, she explained: “I used the FirstBuy scheme and wouldn’t have been able to buy my apartment without it. It allowed me to put down a 5 per cent deposit which really helped. FirstBuy has been replaced by Help to Buy now, which is almost exactly the same, except the 20% equity loan is now entirely from the Government and you can use it to buy a home worth up to £600,000. You don’t pay any interest for the first five years and after that it’s still low. I would definitely recommend using a scheme like Help to Buy if you’re struggling to get on the first or next rung of the property ladder.”
