Grab your binoculars! Tadpole Garden Village residents take part in the RSPB’s Big Garden Bird Watch

Residents of Crest Nicholson’s Tadpole Garden Village development in Swindon came together this weekend to take part in the RSPB’s annual Big Garden Birdwatch, supporting the bird charity in its annual survey of the UK’s bird population.

The RSPB’s Big Garden Bird is an annual event which takes place over three days in January. Now in its 39th year, more than half-a-million birdwatchers spent one hour counting the birds in their garden. The results of the survey allow the RSPB to monitor bird numbers in the UK, and understand why certain species are declining or increasing in number.

Looking to get involved, residents at Crest Nicholson’s Tadpole Garden Village showed their support this year by picking up a bag of birdseed from the development’s Sales and Marketing Suite and then grabbing their binoculars for an hour of peaceful birdwatching.

Tadpole Garden Village is a fantastic place to spot many of the UK’s bird species, owing to its plentiful rural spots for wildlife to enjoy. The RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch revealed in 2017 that the top five bird species in Wiltshire were the blue tit, woodpigeon, starling, blackbird and, taking the top place, the house sparrow.

Sandra Dixon, Sales and Marketing Director at Crest Nicholson South West, said: “We are so pleased to have been involved in the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch this year. This has been a fantastic opportunity for our residents to come together as a community and appreciate the birds and wildlife living so close to their homes!

“Our developments are all designed with the surrounding area in mind, creating green and leafy environments which are the perfect place for both residents and local wildlife to call home.”

An RSPB South West spokesperson said: “To ensure that you have the best Big Garden Birdwatch possible, encouraging your feathered friends to visit your garden during your chosen birdwatch hour, make sure that your bird feeders are topped up. At this time of year birds need high-fat bird food (such as bird-friendly fat balls) to give them much needed energy and help maintain their body temperature. Also ensure that you have a fresh supply of water available for them – this doesn’t’ need to be a birdbath, even an ice cream tub will do – birds need access to fresh water daily for drinking and bathing. Best of luck and most importantly, enjoy.”
