Local Housebuilder Donates Sunshine Coach to Chailey Heritage School

Local housebuilder Crest Nicholson South has handed Chailey Heritage School, in North Chailey, near Lewes, the keys to a brand new 13-seater Sunshine Coach, having raised over £26,700 to fund the vehicle through Variety, the Children’s Charity. The coach, which has a tail lift to aid accessibility, will be used for educational visits, to travel to courses at a local college, to provide transport for residential pupils and those with respite packages and to help work towards independent living for students. Simon Yates, Headteacher at Chailey Heritage School, commented: “We’re delighted to receive this brand new coach and are extremely grateful to Crest Nicholson South and to Variety. The coach will mean that the school will be able to continue to help students to develop their personal and social skills as well as to have fun and build their imaginations. Each experience enriches the lives of the pupils and enables them to do things they would otherwise not have access to.” Mark Jones, Financial Director, Sarah Reeve, Managing Director’s Secretary and Katie Leader, Secretary, who managed the fundraising efforts for Crest Nicholson, handed over the keys to the coach. Sarah commented: “We have a long history of fundraising for Variety, the Children’s Charity, and we are delighted to be able to deliver this Sunshine Coach to Chailey Heritage School. This is the fifth coach that we have donated via the charity and we look forward to continuing to work together in the future.” Keith Andrews, Chief Barker, Variety, the Children’s Charity, commented: “Variety, the Children’s Charity, is enormously grateful for the generous and continuing support of Crest Nicholson South. The commitment of their staff and management over many years has meant that hundreds of children have experienced activities they would otherwise never have and which most of us take for granted. We receive no Government funding and rely entirely on the support of companies like Crest Nicholson to continue our work helping to improve the lives of disabled and disadvantaged children and young people. The coach presented to Chailey Heritage School will be life changing for the children and young people, allowing them to access the wider community and enjoy experiences that would otherwise be denied them.”

Crest Nicholson South has been a proud supporter of The Variety Club since 2005 and has raised in excess of £143,000 and donated five Sunshine coaches to date. – Ends –
