On Thursday 14th February, Crest Nicholson’s Chiltern division hosted an enrichment day to teach local school children about the ‘Dangers of Building Sites’, as part of its wider initiative for the Considerate Constructor’s Scheme (CCS). At Monksmoor Park in Daventry, children from Monksmoor CE Primary School attended an afternoon of learning and development, which also provided an opportunity to discover more about the local construction site.
The session was led by several highly-experienced managers from Crest Nicholson, who primarily focused on the potential dangers they face every day in the workplace. They were able to share their insights and update the children on how live construction sites work and are run. The children, who all attend Monksmoor CE Primary School and reside in homes at Monksmoor Park, were able to ask questions and learn about how a construction site functions on a day-to-day basis.
The enrichment day also offered the children a chance to find out more about future building plans for Monksmoor Park, fueling their excitement about the future of the development. This session formed part of Crest Nicholson’s lasting commitment to the Daventry community, with the potential for further education sessions and school visits being considered by the award-winning developer.
Chris Cox, Project Manager at Crest Nicholson’s Monksmoor Park, said: “It was a real privilege to be able to share our knowledge and teach the children about what’s involved in an active construction site. It’s important for us to drive awareness of safety on and around construction sites, whilst also educating children of the potential dangers when choosing not to follow any rules put in place for everyone’s wellbeing. We are always looking for fun and innovative ways to support the local school, as we recognise how important it is to help educate our younger generation on this topic.
“We look forward to continuing to work more closely with Monksmoor Park School moving forward to ensure all children, are given more opportunities to explore construction, and perhaps even consider it as a potential career option to pursue in future.”
Crest Nicholson’s Monksmoor Park development is located within the heart of the Daventry community. Once completed, it will feature 1,000 homes, Monksmoor Park CE Primary School, a local community centre, retail units and offices, as well as public open spaces and an extension to the Daventry Country Park and reservoir.
