Local doctor uses Help to Buy scheme to secure dream home at Crest Nicholson’s Mandeville Place, Brampton

Local doctor Tom Hixson recently purchased his first home at Crest Nicholson’s Mandeville Place development in Brampton, using the Government’s Help to Buy scheme. The 29-year old doctor purchased the two-bedroom house for £299,950 with just a 5% deposit. Tom admitted he always thought the process of buying a house would be quite lengthy and complicated, however using the Help to Buy scheme, it was “surprisingly easy and really straightforward.”

Tom grew up in Brampton and then moved away to university, living in Manchester and London over the past eight years, before returning last year to start paediatric training at nearby Peterborough City Hospital. House hunting in Brampton was “the most obvious choice” said Tom, who saved enough money to put down a deposit on his first property by moving back home for a year and with some financial support from his parents. His family and friends all live in the local area, which made Mandeville Place the ideal location for his busy work and social life.

As the new owner of a two-bedroom ‘Hawker’ house type, Tom was particularly pleased with the design of the house, as he had “never considered a new build” before visiting Crest Nicholson. He purchased the property off-plan and was really sold by the large living area and big patio doors that open out onto the garden. The spacious master-bedroom and en-suite bathroom were also standout features for Tom.

A big part of Mandeville Place’s appeal for Tom was the neighbourhood itself, which offers a great community atmosphere and creates the perfect setting for him to live alone while staying well-connected. The house is located just off the main road, which means Tom has a great view of open green spaces in front of his house.

Mandeville Place offers excellent transport connections to surrounding towns and cities, with Tom able to commute to work in Peterborough in just 27 minutes via the A1. All homes provide great commuter access to Cambridge in 46 minutes by car and direct trains in under an hour to London St Pancras station from nearby Huntingdon station, just a five-minute drive from the development.

Prices for a two-bedroom home at Mandeville Place start from £299,950, while three-bedrooms start from £384,950. All homes are available on the Help to Buy scheme*.
