Elaine Marson, owner of The Bath Stone Group, which is Bath’s only producer of its award-winning Stoke Ground Bath Stone, outlines why Crest Nicholson’s Bath Riverside development is so important for the city.
Elaine said: “As a local Bath-based business we are delighted to have been involved with Bath Riverside. Since our first meeting with the Crest management team, it was obvious they wanted to use quality materials that were right for Bath, and there is no better way to achieve this other than the use of Bath Stone.
“There was a conscious desire to use local materials and since our stone is mined just down the road from the Riverside site, meant that Crest Nicholson has been true to its word and fully embraced all sustainability issues.
“Aesthetically the development is masterful in its regeneration of what was a Bath central eyesore, and its transformation is stunning. The views, the riverside element and boulevards, create an open and spacious residential place, and we are extremely proud to be associated with it.
“The design element is superb and enhances the quality of life for both residents and the people of Bath.”
Key to the development’s look has been the use of Stoke Ground Bath Stone, which is a beautiful light honey coloured oolitic limestone and which has been used to create Bath’s wonderful architectural characteristics for many centuries.
With an annual stone tonnage level of over 12,000 tonnes, Elaine and her team are not only able to satisfy the needs of the 40 acre development, but provide stone of the highest quality.
Elaine added: “It was vital that Bath’s most important property development blended with the aesthetics of its world heritage city status and the new buildings on the south banks of the River Avon indeed do harmonise with those built in Georgian times.
“The provenance and quality of the stone is second-to-none, and our client base includes Buckingham Palace, St. Georges Chapel, Windsor, and Prince Charles’ Cotswold residence, Highgrove House, to name but a few.
“Bath Riverside is in a premier location so the need to have quality material is of paramount importance, and we are conscious to ensure the high grade stone constantly meets the exacting standards of both builder and discerning house buyer alike.
“Although we enjoy having high profile clients such as Crest Nicholson, what is also important to us is the involvement with premier projects throughout Bath and beyond.
“In a way we are helping shape Bath’s future heritage, and that is something as a local business we are extremely proud of, and are looking forward to working closely with Crest Nicholson for the next five years or so.”
