Clayourne McConnon family

Back in 2020, second steppers Louis McConnon (42), and his partner Orsolya Samu (36) were in the market for a new home to raise their three girls, Willow (10), Ivy (7) and Coral (19 months), having decided they wanted to relocate to a new, semi-rural location. After renting and previously owning in Hemel Hempstead, where the couple jointly own tiling and maintenance businesses, the family were keen to find a family friendly area with ample green space on their doorstep for the girls to enjoy. The couple heard great things about Steeple Claydon, and after starting their house hunt in the area fell in love with Crest Nicholson’s Claybourne development, purchasing a four bedroom detached home in January 2021 thanks to the Government-backed Help-to-Buy Equity Loan scheme.

Louis explains their rationale for relocating: “Orsolya and I realised that having outdoor space was really important to us when bringing up our girls, and something not as readily available in Hemel Hempstead; Claybourne has given us exactly what we envisioned. There’s plenty of greenery on site and open landscapes surrounding the development for us to go on long walks on as a family, as well as a local park for the girls to play in. We’re also very lucky to have a private garden, and our house looks directly onto fields and countryside for as far as you can see – it’s one of our favourite features of the home.”

The family-oriented community was also a key attraction to Claybourne. Louis comments: “There is a really nice community at the development, everyone is very friendly and the area feels safe and welcoming. With it being a growing site, there are lots of other families who live here, including some of the girls’ school friends. They love being able to go out to play on the street with the neighbouring kids or go to their friends’ houses after school.”

Steeple Claydon itself also provides all the family friendly amenities thanks to the great local schools and nurseries. Louis adds: “The area is really convenient for us; Willow and Ivy go to Steeple Claydon Primary which is just a two minute drive or an eight minute walk away, and Coral goes to the local playgroup nearby too.”

The couple are also reaping the benefits of their spacious new build. Louis explains: “Working in the new build sector myself, we recognised the benefits of purchasing a new build home for our family. It was the best decision we could have made; our home is as close to perfect as can be. It’s incredibly spacious with its gallery landing on the first floor, and dressing area and walk in wardrobes in the main bedroom, which were huge selling points for Orsolya! We actually ended up buying the same house type as the show home at Claybourne, so it was great to take a look around it in advance to picture ourselves living in the house.”

The family has already started making the house their own. Louis explains: “I only go into the office a couple times a week, so it’s great having such a spacious, flexible house for when I’m working from home. In fact, I’ve converted the double garage into a home office and man cave!”.

Over a year on from the move, Louis recounts on how smooth the process of buying with Crest Nicholson was. Louis concludes: “The sales team and site manager were really on hand throughout the entire process, which reassured us that Crest Nicholson were a notch above all other competitors in the area – we didn’t even consider another housebuilder once we were on site at Claybourne. The entire team were really efficient and gave us great recommendations for solicitors and the Government-backed Help to Buy: Equity Loan scheme, which really helped us get the most out of our move; the Government provided 20% of the deposit as an equity loan, which was a large amount of money that we didn’t have to find. We couldn’t recommend Crest Nicholson enough; everyone went above and beyond to help us.”

Prices at Claybourne start from £490,000 for a four bedroom home, and from £610,000 for a five bedroom home. Select homes are available on the Government backed Help to Buy: Equity Loan scheme and Crest Nicholson’s Part Exchange and SmoothMove schemes.
