Local day special school, Heathfield School in Fareham, has taken receipt of a brand new Variety Sunshine Coach from award-winning developer, Crest Nicholson. The coach will be used to take children at the school, aged between 3 and 11 years, to outdoor learning activities both in term time and during holidays. This is the third coach Crest Nicholson have delivered to the school, following two previous donations in 2006 as part of the Sunshine Coach appeal.

The donation forms part of Crest Nicholson’s long-standing relationship with children’s charity, Variety. Over the last ten years fund-raising activities organised by Crest Nicholson have now hit almost £800,000  funding 27 Variety Sunshine Coaches at schools across the country, the coach for Heathfield School being the most recent. Over its lifetime, a Sunshine coach is used on average 600 weeks or 3,000 days, providing more than 50,000 children’s trips!

Variety, the children’s charity, provides practical, tangible help for sick, disabled or disadvantaged children and their families, across the UK. The charity’s Sunshine Coaches transport thousands of young people across the UK every day; most are used by schools or organisations for children with special needs, transporting them to and from educational, recreational or vocational activities.

Scott Black, Managing Director of Crest Nicholson’s Regeneration division, said: “We’re thrilled to have been able to raise so much money for such a worthwhile cause and fully support the work Variety does across the country. We have a long-standing relationship with Heathfield School, as we previously donated two similar coaches to the school back in 2006.

As responsible housebuilders we recognise the importance of getting involved with and supporting the local communities where we build and develop.”

Mike Haszko, Head of Corporate Fundraising at Variety, commented: “Crest Nicholson has been long standing supporters of Variety, and the company’s commitment to our work over many years has immeasurably improved the lives of thousands of children. We simply can’t thank them enough.”
