Award-winning housebuilder Crest Nicholson hosted a team of 10 students from Ashford College at their Finberry development on Tuesday 19th of January. The purpose of the visit was to give the Level One BTEC plumbing students an insight into operations on a large-scale housing development.

The students were given a tour of the development by Site Managers Neil Johnson and Steve Saunders. Finberry’s Build Manager, Irwyn Evans, also attended the visit and provided an in-depth Q&A session with the students after the tour. They were also shown around a number of properties onsite in various stages of the construction process to aid their understanding of the technical plumbing process.

Devran Yalcin, an apprentice from Ashford College, explained: “The visit to Finberry has been a good opportunity to experience the construction process on large scale developments first-hand. It’s been great to see the practical application of our course content. I plan to apply for an apprenticeship here once I’ve completed my Level 2 diploma.”

Annette Cole, Sales and Marketing Director at Crest Nicholson’s Eastern division, said: “We were delighted to welcome this team of apprentices onto our Finberry development. The visit was a fantastic opportunity for them to see first-hand the vital role plumbing plays in a large scale residential project such as Finberry. At Crest Nicholson, we recognise the importance of supporting the education of young industry professionals, and providing hands-on experience to further their development.”

Chris Tyler, Work Placement Co-Ordinator for Ashford College, added: “This was a great opportunity for our students to gain first-hand experience, meet employers face-to-face, and to find out about career opportunities and how to access them.”

Homes are still available at Finberry, which offers a range of properties, from traditionally designed apartments to large, four bedroom family homes. Visit  to find out more information.
