Richard Whaley and his partner Susan Blatt have just turned their spacious new home into a ‘work from home’ haven at Crest Nicholson’s Lancaster Grange in Bricket Wood. The couple had never considered a new build property before discovering the contemporary and more quirky style of homes on offer at Crest Nicholson’s development, located in the heart of the Bricket Wood community.
Having previously lived in St Albans, the couple knew they wanted to stay in the local area. They viewed a number of developments but chose Lancaster Grange because its unique style “was something we were instantly attracted to” Richard said. They purchased the three-bedroom ‘Gibson’ house type, which stood out from the start as it completely offset their initial preconceptions about modern houses due to the bigger rooms and living space.
Purchasing their first house together, the couple fell in love with their new home’s beautiful and spacious art-deco feel, a feature neither had seen before. Richard commented that they “can’t believe the clean lines and airy living spaces, which is so different to everything else around.” As both Richard, a luxury fashion recruitment specialist, and Susan, a womenswear fashion expert, work from home at least three days a week, having a lot of space within the home was very important. Richard also commutes into London on a bi-weekly basis, with his access to nearby St Albans train station made simple by just a 15-minute drive.
A key factor behind choosing this particular house was the size of the kitchen. Richard said they could easily fit two dining tables into the living space, which is a feature he had never experienced in a property before. The spacious kitchen is also perfect for hosting family dinner parties and entertaining friends in their lounge area, with the couple already receiving lots of visitors who are really impressed with their new home. Other exciting features that really stood out to the duo was their en-suite bathroom and the fantastic view from their third-bedroom. They have already transformed this room into a large home office space, which Richard said boasts “a fabulous view” of the beautiful surrounding trees.
Lancaster Grange is also ideally located for Richard and Susan, with their families based in the East Midlands and London, who can all easily travel to visit from either direction. The development is right on the doorstep of both the M1 and M25, as well as offering Susan’s family the chance to visit in just 10-minutes by car. Richard said he really enjoys the ability to easily “go shopping in central London or visit the theatre and then be home in next to no time” thanks to the excellent local transport links.
The overall finish of their new build home was an “extremely high standard,” which meant that they could move in easily without needing to do much at all apart from make the space their own. Richard commented that they found the communication with Crest Nicholson’s sales team “exemplary” throughout the moving process and really connected with the team who were always on hand to support the couple. Richard and Susan recently hosted the full team at Lancaster Grange with a celebratory afternoon of cake and champagne at their new home to thank them for all their hard work and commitment.
