After a year traveling the world together, Mervyn Batchelor (37) and Lucy Boylett (26) decided it was time to settle down and purchase their first home. They moved back in with their parents for a year and a half to save, and in October 2020, they purchased a two bedroom apartment at Crest Nicholson’s Aspect development in Hersham.

Mervyn, a firefighter, said he was lucky to be able to stay with his mum and dad in Shepperton and put away half of his wages each month. He commented: “If I was renting, it would have been very hard to save up for a deposit for my first home. Thanks to our parents’ helping hand, and the Government backed Help to Buy: Equity Loan scheme, Lucy and I were able to afford the deposit. We were also able to take advantage of the stamp duty holiday, which made it even easier for us to become homeowners.”

Located in the heart of the village of Hersham, Aspect is a short, 26 minute train ride to London Waterloo from nearby stations Hersham and Walton on Thames, meaning the development was a perfect location for the couple. Mervyn commented: “It takes me only 45 minutes to drive to my base station in north west London, while Lucy – who works for a media production company in Shepherds Bush – has been working from home. Once she returns to the office, the easy commuter location will be perfect for her.”

Mervyn said it was also important for them to have the space to create a home office. “I do video editing as my passion, so both Lucy and I needed a dedicated space to work in. The flexible living layout of the apartment allowed us to easily convert the second bedroom into a study with plenty of space for two extendable desks.”

All apartments at Aspect have been expertly designed for the flexible needs of a modern homebuyer – from spacious balconies to open-plan living areas and kitchens, all with integrated appliances. The stylish and contemporary collection of one, two and three-bedroom homes, also benefit from exceptional communal facilities including a roof terrace, parking facilities and cycle storage.

While scenic views of the horizon and lots of natural sunlight are among Mervyn’s favourite aspects of his new home, he said the local amenities are fantastic: “We’ve got a really good selection of shops, restaurants and cafes nearby, as well as a post office. It’s also really convenient to have a supermarket so close – literally on our doorstep. Lucy can be cooking, and I can walk downstairs to get the ingredients we need for that particular meal. Everything we need is nearby.”

The development is just a short stroll from the River Mole and Hersham Green shopping centre – which includes a range of independent shops and a Waitrose – while a Lidl is located underneath the development. With a variety of traditional pubs nearby and a choice of excellent local schools, Hersham is a great location for first time buyers, professionals and families.

With just eight one-bedroom apartments remaining on offer at Aspect from £147,500, and available on Home Reach, potential buyers are urged to book an appointment to view the development as soon as possible. For more information, please call 01932 282 106.
