Following their lessons on materials, last week Year One students from The Abbey in Reading joined Crest Nicholson at their Mulberry View development for a site visit. This special tour in Wokingham was timely to the class’ curriculum and the children got a glimpse into the construction industry.

The five and six-year old pupils from The Abbey headed to Mulberry View to get a hands-on experience at the building site. Upon their arrival, the students, dressed in hard hats and hi-vis jackets, took a tour of the construction site where they put their learning into practice. The children then toured the show home where they discovered the range of jobs available in the construction industry.

Christine Tiernan, Sales & Marketing Director for Crest Nicholson South, said: “The day was a great success and we look forward to hosting more students in the future. Our aim as a housebuilder is more than just building homes, we look to engage with the local community. We hope we have inspired these young girls by giving them a glimpse into the industry.”

Mrs Nicola Dick-Cleland, Head of The Abbey Junior School, said: "We were delighted to be invited to Wokingham by Crest Nicholson where our students got a chance to have a hands-on experience at the development as part of our inquiry-based approach to learning and teaching.”

Miss Charlotte Gleadhill, Lower Prep (Year One) teacher added: “The girls had the opportunity to see all the stages of the house being built. They also got the chance to ask  questions to satisfy their own curiosities and particularly loved seeing all the different equipment and machinery that was being used. Following the visit, the girls were all excited to design their own dream homes and had discovered lots of information about the properties of the different materials used to build houses!”

The Mulberry View development comprises a collection of two, three and four bedroom houses and one and two bedroom apartments. The development boasts excellent transport links by road and rail to larger towns including Reading, Bracknell, Maidenhead, Basingstoke and Guildford.
