174 year one to six pupils enjoyed a talk by Lightmoor Green’s building site managers about the common machinery they use, the dangers of being on a building site and how builders stay safe. As part of the presentation the children were also treated to a visit from Ivor Goodsite, the larger than life mascot for the Considerate Constructors Scheme. 10 lucky pupils who live local to Lightmoor Green were then taken on a tour of the development to learn more about how houses are built.
Jane Siddons, Head Teacher at Lightmoor Primary School, said: “The children absolutely loved their visit from the builders at Crest Nicholson and the tour of Lightmoor Green. It was such a beneficial education experience and real life lesson when it comes to staying safe and not thinking of building sites as playgrounds.
“Because the site is only a stone’s throw from the school, the children had seen the landscape changing and so were really interested to find out more. The Crest Nicholson team were fantastic, especially Mark and Mick the Site’s Managers and James Bell the Group Health, Safety and Environmental Advisor, who led the presentation. They explained all about the different equipment used on site and the children were especially excited to meet Ivor Goodsite.”
Mick Brealey, Crest Nicholson Assistant Site Manager at Lightmoor Green, added: “We’re always keen to forge strong links with the local communities in which we work and it was a real pleasure to give the children a bit of insight into our work at Lightmoor Green and to teach them about the hidden dangers of building sites and how to stay out of harms way.”
