Woolston residents will soon enjoy a new supermarket, new restaurants and cafes, alongside 329 new homes after members of the City Council’s Planning and Rights of Way Panel gave the thumbs up to a planning application for the third phase of regeneration at Centenary Quay. Developer Crest Nicholson has been working on regenerating the old Vosper-Thorneycroft shipyard since 2009 and has already begun building new homes, a new library to serve all residents of Woolston and a day nursery. We are delighted that work on Phase Three has approval and that even more facilities will be available for the local community to enjoy. Crest Nicholson Regeneration’s Managing Director, Debbie Aplin said, “We’d like to thank councillors for approving this important application for the third phase of Centenary Quay today. This is an important phase of the development as it includes 329 new homes of which 72 are affordable, alongside the new supermarket, public plaza with bars and cafes continuing the regeneration of the area. These aspects of the proposals gained substantial support at the public exhibition where it was recognised that they will support the local economy and increase the diversity of the retail offering in Woolston. We maintain the commitment of all parties concerned; the HCA, The Local Authority, Local Registered Housing Providers and ourselves to the community of Woolston and Southampton. We are excited and look forward to completing the overall redevelopment of Centenary Quay.” Peter Cusdin, Development Director of the HCA said, “The HCA is delighted that the next phase of Centenary Quay has been approved today and that we are able to continue our productive working relationship with both Crest and Southampton City Council. This is testament to the success of Phases One and Two. We look forward to welcoming residents, shoppers and users of the restaurants and cafes as Phase Three progresses.” Phase Three will include 329 residential units, a supermarket, cafes, restaurants and a public plaza creating an attractive leisure and amenity area and continuing to regenerate the area for all to enjoy.
