Family Express Joy as Crest Nicholson Grants Wish for Apartment-style Intercom on New House

A blind mother-of-two has expressed her delight after Crest Nicholson Eastern arranged for her new home to be fitted with a free intercom device to allow her to safely open her front door.

Emma Free and husband John put in a special request for the technology to be installed on their new three-bedroom home at the Vista development in Ipswich after spotting it being added to apartment blocks being completed at the site.

Housewife Emma said she and her family recently purchased a three-bedroom townhouse at Vista and have settled in really well. Having previously lived in an Edwardian terrace with narrow stairs, Emma said the wider spaces in her modern new build home have made life easier when it comes to getting around the house. The installation of the intercom device was the icing on the cake for Emma.

Thrilled Emma - who has a guide dog called Jazz and two young sons named Luke, nine, and seven-year-old Owen – said: “We were so glad when Crest Nicholson said they could install a mains-powered intercom – and even happier when they offered to do so for free.

“At our last house we had a battery-operated intercom and when it rained it completely destroyed the outside unit. I was getting through them like boxes of chocolates!

“So when we saw the intercoms on the flats, we thought we would ask Crest Nicholson if they would be able to install one on our new home – but without the door-opening buzzer button, because we were worried the children could use it to open the door to strangers.

“We were delighted when Crest Nicholson agreed to help us out. I can’t tell you how relieved I am and how much of a difference it makes to my life.

“In this day and age you never know who you’re opening the door to and, being blind, without the device I’d have no way of knowing who was at the door when my husband is at work and the kids are at school. It’s little things like this that make all the difference to help alleviate some of the stress of moving house and it helped me quickly feel really at home.”

Emma joked that one of the hardest things about moving in in the beginning was teaching her five-year-old golden retriever guide dog Jazz where the house was.

She said: “We had this lovely new house but I couldn't go out at first by myself until Jazz had learnt how to get us back here. It only took her a couple of weeks to pick it up with the help of friends and family going out with us and I was soon independent again.

“But it was scary coming home on my own for the first time hoping Jazz had led me to the right door. I could hear people across the road talking so I said out loud to Jazz: ‘I hope you've bought me to the right house’. Luckily, she had. She’s such a clever girl and we’re all very proud of her. We love our new life at Vista, Jazz included!”

Thanks to its location just off Woodbridge Road, the development is only a 15 minute walk to Ipswich’s vibrant town centre. Situated less than two miles from the train station, Vista provides easy access to excellent transport links, with direct trains into London Liverpool Street taking less than an hour. Additionally, Vista is in the catchment area of Ipswich’s highly regarded Northgate School, heightening its appeal to parents.

Currently available are three-bedroom homes priced from £199,950. A new release of two-bedroom apartments will be coming soon. For more information or to book an appointment please contact Vista on 0870 757 8182 or visit www.crestnicholson.com/vista.
