Recognised in the ‘Three Storeys or Fewer’ category for the Velvet house type, which is exclusive to Rosewood, the judging panel was looking for excellence in design, attractive exteriors, sustainability and usability.
Commending the Velvet and Rosewood as a whole for its ‘impressive contemporary design’, the judges further applauded the development for its conception and execution, which was deemed ‘just right’ for both the scheme and surrounding area.
Designed by award-winning architectural practice Broadway Malyan, the Velvet is a spacious four bedroom family home arranged over three storeys, extending to almost 1800 sq ft in size. With an exceptional architectural attention to detail and practical yet stylish layout, the Velvet not only enhances but also heightens the standard of properties in the local area.
Praising the Velvet for its ‘architectural flair’, the judges noted that the 8.6ft ceilings are higher than in the average home and ‘lend an air of expansiveness’, while the large windows reveal the skyline and flood the internal accommodation with natural light. With double doors opening onto the garden from the living room and kitchen, the outside figures as an extension of the internal living accommodation and effectively brings the outside in.
With further innovative features such as a first floor bay window that projects outwards providing a porch above the main entrance externally and space internally for a study or a playroom, the Velvet’s clever use of space is highlighted.
As a corner home, the Velvet’s internal space has been maximised to incorporate a 45 degree angle into its design, so that the generous kitchen / dining room extends off from the main structure to create an L-shape. Furthermore, being open-plan offers home owners the necessary flexibility to adapt the room layout depending on whether they are hosting a cosy family supper or an extravagant dinner party.
