Crest Nicholson breaks £500,000 fundraising milestone, for Variety the children's charity

Variety International has presented Crest Nicholson with its prestigious Variety International Corporate Award in recognition of the Group’s long term fundraising and support over many years for Variety, the Children’s Charity in the UK. Since first working with the charity in 2005 the housebuilder has raised more than £554,400, making a massive difference to the lives of thousands of sick, disabled or disadvantaged children and young people around the UK.

Variety International is a global charity with three core initiatives: Freedom, Future and Caring. As part of this, Variety, the Children’s Charity, provides practical help for disabled and disadvantaged children through the provision of Sunshine Coaches, electric wheelchairs and specialist equipment designed to give children greater mobility and independence.  It also gives memorable days out for thousands of children through its Variety at Work programme.

For Crest Nicholson, giving back to the community in which it operates is a priority. Over the years, Crest Nicholson employees, suppliers, subcontractors and partners have raised funds to help purchase 15 Sunshine coaches and a range of desperately needed specialist equipment.

One young person who has been able to benefit from this support is 16 year-old Callum Palmer from Fareham. Callum suffers from spina bifida, which greatly affects his Mobility, and as part of Crest Nicholson’s fundraising activities, Callum was presented with his own custom-built, lightweight wheelchair. Callum is now working hard to fulfil his dreams of becoming a Paralympian wheelchair basketball player whilst studying hard at college.

Chief Executive Stephen Stone, from Crest Nicholson, commented: “The work that Variety does is truly life-changing, and it has been a real privilege for Crest Nicholson to be able to play such an active role in contributing to this worthy cause. We encourage our staff to get involved at every level, and to be able to make such a difference to children who need it the most has been one of the most rewarding experiences for everyone involved. We are truly honoured to receive this International Award and look forward to continuing our long standing relationship with Variety.”
