It is a popular tourist attraction due to the historic character including a magnificent cathedral, a medieval palace with a moat and gardens, traditional narrow cobbled streets including the oldest street in Europe which plays host to the Vicars Choral who are the men of the Cathedral Choir.

There are also lively markets held twice weekly. The Keward Brook itself is a tributary of the River Sheppy, the source of which are four springs within the gardens of the Bishop’s Palace in the city centre. These then flow into the palace moat and make their way into the brook and onto the river.
