As society becomes more attuned to environmental issues, we have sought to set ever-higher targets for ourselves. We are focussed on reducing carbon emissions, waste and improving energy efficiency and water conservation.
We measure our carbon performance using our carbon footprint, which measures four types of emissions: emissions from our offices, site operations, business travel and commuting.
We have reduced our carbon emissions associated with energy consumption per person by 17% when compared to 2014. This reduction far exceeds our original target of reducing office energy consumption per person by 10% by the end of our financial year 2017. In part this is due to a drop in our electricity consumption in our Head Office where we installed more LED lights and closing one of our gas accounts in our old Midlands office.Find out more about our office footprint
|1 Office gas||105.7|
|2 Office electricity||465.8|
|3 Office water||1.6|
|4 Office waste (landfilled)||0.2|
Our normalised emissions from our development sites have reduced by 9% (2.55 tCO2e /1000 square feet compared to 2.81 in 2014). This is despite an increase in our reported diesel consumption, resulting from a continuing improvement in the quality and scope of our data collection.Find out more about our site footprint
|5 Site gas||884.2|
|6 Site electricity||2,149.4|
|7 Site water||20.7|
|8 Site fuel||3,758.8|
|9 Site waste (landfilled)||1.4|
In 2015, we have seen an 11% reduction per person in carbon emissions associated with business travel from private vehicles. This reduction is due to several factors, including our company car policy (that incentivises employees to choose vehicles that are more efficient and environmentally friendly), employees choosing public transportation to attend meetings, as well as improvement in our IT systems that provided more employees with video conferencing capabilities.Find out more about our business travel footprint
|10 Company-owned vehicles||1,168|
|11 Employee-owned vehicles||588.8|
|12 Public transportation||31.2|
|13 Other (flights, taxis)||16.3|
In 2015 we have seen a 7% reduction in emissions associated with commuting. In part this is due to a continued improvement in the quality of data we collect from employees about their commute. However, we have also seen a slight increase in the proportion of employees commuting by hybrid car and underground, which would have contributed to the reduction in commuting emissions.Find out more about our commuting footprint
|14 Employee commuting by private transportation||707.9|
|15 Employee commuting by public transportation||33.5|
