Transport and Connectivity

Connectivity and sustainable transport are key parts of creating great places to live.

According to the National Audit Office, the UK’s roads are among the most heavily used in Europe. In creating new developments, we do not want to add to this burden.

When we first source land for development we look for sites that are well-located with good access to public transport and amenities. We also introduce other sustainable transport initiatives, ensuring our customers have a variety of transport choices.

In 2015, 22% of our new homes benefitted from sustainable transport initiatives which we introduced. These included car clubs, cycle lanes, vouchers for public transport and bikes, and travel information packs. 93% of new homes were within 500 m of a bus service, whilst 25% were within 500m of a train service. Additionally, 62% had access to a newly planned cycle route.

In briefToot-toot tooting all around town:  Our Tooting development’s green travel plan
Creating great places to live Toot toot tooting all around town integrated

Encouraging our customers to choose sustainable forms of transport, live healthy lives and minimising the impact our development had on traffic in Tooting, were key drivers behind developing a green travel plan for the scheme.

The development is less than 350 metres from the underground, various bus services and London’s Cycle Super Highway, but we have also introduced other initiatives to encourage our customers to use alternatives to the car.

  • A travel plan coordinator is on hand to help customers understand their transport choices
  • We have provided a large secured cycle storage area
  • Customers receive information packs with local maps and timetables
  • There is a car club on the site
