Habitat for Humanity

As part of Crest Nicholson's 50th anniversary celebrations in 2013, the Group committed to support Habitat for Humanity – Hope Builder’s initiative.

Habitat for Humanity believes that enabling everyone to have a safe, decent place to live is catalytic to breaking the cycle of poverty.

‘Habitat’ partner with communities in housing need to find appropriate, permanent, long-term solutions to their particular housing issues. ‘Habitat’ does this in such a way as to build the capacity and capabilities of each community, so that they are active participants in the solution to their housing problems and not passive recipients of aid. Individuals emerge from the process not just with a home, but with skills and assets to be able to make further positive community-focused changes to their neighbourhood.

‘Hope Builder’ is a property initiative through which Crest Nicholson committed to raise enough funds to provide 50 new homes at a cost of £1,235 each for people in extreme need across the world. The Group in fact doubled this target and raised £124,220, enough to build 111 homes through the fundraising efforts and generosity of staff, suppliers and sub-contractors.

In celebration of this work the Group sponsored 12 employees from across the business, including three apprentices and two graduates, to travel to Malawi to work on one of the building projects. The team was able to experience first-hand the incredible work undertaken by the Hope Builder’s initiative and just how much of a difference it makes to the family benefiting from the new home and the wider community to have a safe place to live.
