Our History

  1. 1963


    Crest Homes Limited is formed by Bryan Skinner and Geoffrey Fox in Walton on Thames, Surrey.

  2. 1968


    The business lists on the London Stock Exchange under the name of Crest Homes Ltd and subsequently Crest Securities Limited.

  3. 1972


    Crest Nicholson is formed following the merger of Crest Homes Ltd with Camper & Nicholson’s, the boat builder.

  4. 1977

    The first regional office opens in Westerham, Kent.

  5. 1986


    The business acquires Pearce Group, leading to the formation of the South West & Midlands regional offices.

  6. 1996


    The 'Nicholson Estates' brand is developed to trade in the quality inner London market.

  7. 1997


    The business acquires Ingress Park, a 30 hectare derelict site in Greenhithe, now an award winning flagship residential regeneration project.

  8. 2002


    Crest Nicholson is the first housebuilder in the sector to report on non-financial performance.

  9. 2004


    The business is named as the only house builder in The Business In the Community’s ‘Top 100 Companies that Count’.

  10. 2005


    We achieve first position in WWF’s ‘One million sustainable homes’ benchmark (now known as The NextGeneration benchmark).

  11. 2007


    Crest Nicholson is awarded the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise in sustainable development. The business becomes privately owned, no longer listing on the London Stock Exchange.

  12. 2008


    The company publishes its first climate change review.

  13. 2009


    Crest Nicholson joins a leading R&D project called AIMC4, designed to pioneer the volume production of low carbon homes for the future.

  14. 2010


    The Company wins its 8th Building for life Gold Standard – achieving more than any other developer.

  15. 2011


    A new London division opens to focus on increasing delivery in the Capital. The Group also wins Sustainable Housebuilder of the Year award.

  16. 2013


    In the company’s 50th year it re-enters the London Stock Exchange.

  17. 2014


    A new Chiltern division opens in St Albans, helping to deliver much needed new homes in the northern home counties. Crest Nicholson is named as a gold award winner in the NextGeneration benchmark in recognition of the Company’s place as sustainability leaders within the sector.

  18. Monksmoor


    The first residents move into Monksmoor Park in Daventry. This entirely new village, is underpinned by our Garden Village framework. Click here to find out more.

  19. Kilnwood Vale


    A partnership is developed with M&G Real Estate to deliver the UK’s first purpose designed suburban private rented sector (PRS) homes at Kilnwood Vale in Faygate.

  20. Peter Truscott


    Peter Truscott is appointed Chief Executive.
