Crest Nicholson is honouring Bristol’s historic sailing past by naming their exclusive new villas after previous Captains of the ss Great Britain.
The Villas overlook Brunel’s historic ship so it was deemed appropriate they should been given the names Hosken, Gray, Robertson and Matthews – after the Captains who sailed the ships around the world North, South, East and West.
The first Villa is to be named after James Hosken, the first Captain of the ss Great Britain who presided over her maiden voyage to New York in 1845. There will also be Gray Villa, named after John Gray, who captained the ship during her runs to Australia and who, in 1872, disappeared in mysterious circumstances off the Australian Coast.
The next villa is to be named Robertson Villa after the ss Great Britain’s first officer at the time of Captain Gray’s disappearance. Peter Robertson took command of the ship for the remainder of that voyage and for her last two voyages as an Australian passenger liner.
Lastly, Matthews Villa honours Bernard Robert Matthews, who captained the ss Great Britain on her first test run to New York after her refit. Matthews also captained the first run to Australia in 1852 and eventually emigrated there with his family.
The Villas offer a unique opportunity for house-hunters to buy a water-side house next to the city’s historic floating harbour. The five-storey houses each have a rooftop sunroom and private terrace overlooking the water and the surrounding countryside.
With floor-to-ceiling windows, natural light floods the living spaces of all four properties, which each have three bedrooms and open plan kitchen/dining areas of the highest quality.
Sales and marketing director, Susan Young said: “Harbourside is a great place for people who want to be in the heart of the city with the tranquillity of living next to the water as a bonus.
“Harbourside has been described as the most impressive inner-city development in Europe and it is no surprise, with its vibrant atmosphere of bars and restaurants and the city centre within walking distance, that it is becoming the most sought-after location in Bristol.”
Susan continued: “The waterside location is an attractive consideration for discerning house-hunters so it is great to reflect Bristol’s history in the naming of our most exclusive properties.”
