People Matter at Crest Nicholson

Crest Nicholson is very aware of the importance of its employees to the future of the business. People with the right knowledge, skills and aptitudes are the key to driving the Company forward. We aim to create a safe, healthy and fair working environment which is also challenging and rewarding for all employees.

This year saw a significant reduction in the number of employees at Crest Nicholson as a result of the downturn in the economy. We had to close three of seven divisions. We recognise that a downsizing programme requires careful and sensitive management and that it affects performance for some time after the redundancy process is over.

The business has refocused very well on responding to the changed market conditions and is now well structured to go forward. We are working hard to provide the support and training our people need to ensure that we can grow the business in the future.

Employee numbers dropped to 490 (FY08: 590), of which 472 are permanent. The overall gender ratio remained at roughly two-thirds male: one third female. This year we succeeded in obtaining information on ethnic origin from 67% of our people using a survey. We are pleased to report that Crest Nicholson remuneration of females vs. males is still significantly higher than the national average of 78%, at 88% for Executive, 93% for Management and 115% for Staff.

Training and development

It is Crest Nicholson's policy that everyone is considered for employment, training, career development and promotion solely on the basis of their aptitudes and abilities.

This approach runs throughout our organisation and we are delighted to help young people to gain the skills they need to develop through our active graduate and apprenticeship programmes. Growing the skills and competences of all our people ensures that the company has a sound basis for success.

Engaging Employees

Our employees need to be informed and fully engaged in company programmes to drive performance improvements. Read more about how we engage with our Employees.
