About this report

This year we have for the first time moved to internet-based reporting. In so doing we are following the leaders in corporate responsibility reporting in using the power of the internet to make our reporting clearer and more engaging.

This is our seventh annual Sustainability Report, and covers the economic, social and environmental performance of Crest Nicholson during our fiscal year 2008, which ran from 1 November 2007 to 31 October 2008. Additional information on our financial performance, corporate governance, and regulatory issues is also available in other sections of this website.

The report content addresses our significant economic, social and environmental impacts, which we identified through our own analysis of the business as well as by listening to what our stakeholders told us concerned them.

The figures presented in the report cover our own operations and do not include performance data from our suppliers, unless otherwise stated. This is the same report boundary as we have used in previous years. We have followed widely accepted measurement protocols in calculating our performance and these are cited with each dataset.

This year we have widened the scope of our reporting, particularly in respect of the environmental performance of our homes. We have also significantly increased the robustness of the data we report by improving the way we capture and analyse our raw data.

In 2002 when we first reported, we used the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Sustainability Reporting Guidelines. In applying the third edition Guidelines – GRI G3 – to our current report, we have achieved Level C.

We want to ensure we understand the needs of our stakeholders so we would very much welcome your feedback. You can email us at sustainability@crestnicholson.com to let us know what you think of this report, or alternatively complete our feedback form. We look forward to hearing from you.

" Crest Nicholson's driving ambition is to be the market leader in the design and delivery of sustainable housing and mixed use communities."
