Variety Club Sunshine Coach presentation

For four years now, the Group has supported the Variety Club children's charity, a charity which helps sick, disabled and disadvantaged children in the UK. This year our employees, contractors and suppliers raised £86,789 making a total of £277,038 over the last four years. In 2008 three Sunshine Coaches were presented to schools across the UK. All of our businesses hold a monthly dress-down day to raise funds towards this total.

In addition, Crest Nicholson made formal donations of £41,546 in 2008 (2007 £28,874). No political donations were made.

Trek to Morocco for the Variety Club

In March 2008 a team of 15 Crest Nicholson employees scaled the largest mountain in North Africa, the 4,167 metre-high Jebel Toubkal mountain in southwestern Morocco.

The trek raised £10,000 for the Variety Club, which was used to send 1,200 children to Gulliver's land in Milton Keynes for a special Christmas trip.

The £277,038 that Crest has raised for the Variety Club over the past four years has provided nine sunshine coaches and also much-needed outings and equipment including electric wheelchairs, specialist beds and sensory equipment. All of which can help to make a significant difference to the lives of young children.

Plaque presentation

In recognition of Crest Nicholson's long-term support the Company was presented with a commendatory plaque from The Variety Club.

Norman Kaphan, Variety Club Chief Barker, said:
"We are absolutely thrilled with the support from Crest Nicholson. The Variety Club relies heavily on sponsorship and this was a wonderful, exciting and memorable day for the thousands of children that attended."

Teaching children about being safe

'Lifeskills – Learning for Living' is a permanent regional safety education and training centre built as a realistic 'village' at the Create Centre in Bristol. It is designed to help children and other members of the community learn about safety in a fun and practical way, in the home, on the road or during leisure time.

Martyn Price, Crest's Group Health and Safety Manager, continued his role as Volunteer Guide to Lifeskills throughout 2008, taking small groups of children, aged 10-11, around each of the scenarios explaining the key safety messages.
