Delivering sustainable homes

We aspire to design and build homes which deliver outstanding value to our customers, and enhance the built environment. The homes we build should respond to the three pillars of sustainable development: they should be affordable; enhance the quality of life for individuals and communities now and in the future; and minimise negative impacts on the environment.

Here we describe how creating sustainable homes begins with engaging the local community, our approach to design and innovation, the steps we take to manage sustainable construction sites and our performance this year.

For Crest Nicholson a sustainable home and place is achieved through a balance of:

  • Engagement with customers at every stage, starting with community consultation
  • Well-designed internal spaces which provide good levels of ventilation, natural light and sound insulation to enhance wellbeing and happiness
  • Well-designed external spaces which provide secure private and public open spaces with character that create a sense of place
  • Quality construction through careful craftsmanship and selection of durable products and materials
  • Exercising good practice sustainable construction
  • Ensuring a variety of transport options are possible
  • High levels of customer care throughout
  • Effective mechanisms for long-term management and stewardship of the development.

Crest Nicholson views sustainability as permeating the whole of the design, placemaking and delivery process, and to ensuring that the legacy is maintained and grown to support the community. This approach to delivering sustainable homes addresses much wider considerations than just those prescribed in the Code for Sustainable Homes. The Code sets out escalating standards at the dwelling level and we are working to achieve these while maintaining excellence in design and quality at an affordable price.
